For those of you that don’t know about the Unsponge hype, I will give a quick break down of how I found them and what they are made of. Our daughter has a terminal disease, and standing wet stuff starting growing bacteria within 24 hours. When she was diagnosed I started doing research on things I could change within our house to not have standing water / damp items around. I never thought about the germs that sponges, kitchen towels and dish clothes hold until I needed to be concerned about them. It’s not something I’d recommend googling!

Unsponges are comparable to your favorite grocery store sponge option, but they are reusable. There are many versions out there so make sure you read what they are made of. Some people on places like Etsy are putting an actual sponge inside of their unsponges which I feel defeats the purpose. Nature Junkies unsponges are made of the following: cotton, absorbent terry cloth, and an antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and biodegradable bamboo. They are thinner than your average store bought sponge but I feel that helps you clean more efficiently. Having bought my previous unsponges from this store, the new ones I received this weekend are larger. (You’ll see the difference in my photos) I also believe she also changed the material she was using as well since I last purchased.

I love these unsponges, the first set were great but having used this new set today they are defiantly new and improved. Something that I didn’t care for in the old set is that when washing you could feel the material move, like the top and the bottom were moving together but more moving separate. So when scrubbing it gave a weird sensation, but with these new ones it didn’t happen. I had a few bowls with stuck on gunk this evening and they scrubbed threw it like a charm.

I use one unsponge per load of dishes washed then put it in with the dirty towels. I own usually around 5 – 8 at a time because they are also great for cleaning. The list of uses could really go on forever:

  • Dishes
  • Counters
  • Floors
  • Messes
  • Pot Holders
  • Body Wash
  • Pet Cleaning

Nature Junkie also carries Unpaper Towels, Wash Cloths, Coffee Filters, and Tea Filters! I would recommend their shop to anyone hands down. Great customer service, fast shipping and great products. What more could you ask for?

These products would make great gifts, they would work well as stocking stuffers, or house warming presents. You could create the perfect Coffee Lover basket with the Filters or Dorm basket with the unsponges/towels and cloths! Endless possibilities, plus pick some up for yourself.

In these photos the Sushi and Cupcake prints are from my purchase in 2014, and the rest are from my recent purchase. You can see the size different! I did toss out the 2014 unsponges today but as you can see they held up pretty well for being scrubbed and washed regularly. I’m extremely impressed with their quality.
